Please find below the golf report as issued to the local newspaper - except for a further excerpt from section F of the golf dictionary:
Follow-through - The part of the swing that takes place after the ball has been hit but before the club has been thrown.
Fore - The first of several four-letter words exchanged between golfers as one group of players hits balls toward another in front of them on the course.
Saturday’s competition, in memory of Betty Freck, was a two person multiplier, draw for partners. Numbers were swelled with visitors from Bowral and Tura Beach. Starters rose to foggy aspect, but hit down a clear first fairway and finished in brilliant, warm sunshine.
Winning with a submitted score of 70 points were Mick McDonell and Aaron Walton. A countback determined the runners up, both on 66 points. Edging out Mick McDonell, playing swinger due to an odd number, and George Gerrard, were Mark Collins and Garry Nicolls.
Proud sponsors of the day, Peter and Colin, sons of Betty Freck, were in teams that took a leaf out of the Michael Clarke cricketing book for test match play in England to take out, not the Bradman’s, but the lowest scores of the day. And like Clarke, we prefer not to mention them.
Shot of the day to George, who took out nearest the pin on the seventeenth within an armstretch at 113 centimetres. Curiously, no birdies were recorded on this hole. George also scored two gobbles, on 1 and 9, while Peter scored his on 9 and 17.
Birdies to Col on the 13th and to Peter on the 9th, this also being the Betty Freck birdie hole, so he scored a golf ball as well.
A number of players have signed on for the matchplay tournament. Be in it to win it. Enter your name at the club or contact Peter on 6383 7383. Next Saturday will be a single stableford.
