Clover Leigh golf report for the first week of June 2015

Please find below the golf report as issued to the local newspaper - except for the following excerpts from Section A of the golf dictionary:

Advice - According to the rules of golf, advice is "any counsel or suggestion made by one golfer to another about the choice of club, method of play or making of a shot, which contains no more than five errors of fact, contradictory statements or harmful recommendations. Six or more such pieces of misinformation shall constitute a formal golf lesson."

Approach shot - a shot which, if it had not caught the lip of the bunker and dropped back into the sand, would have rolled across the green and gone into the water.

Tuesday’s field played a single stableford. The best score recorded was 39 points by Peter Frecklington, who also managed to land 525 cm from the cup on the eighth hole to take out nearest the pin. It was considered fortuitous that Peter won on the day as he forgot to deliver the competition trophy to the clubhouse, having left it at home.

Gobbles to Peter on the third, George Gerrard on the sixth and to Reg Frecklington on the eighteenth. A birdie to Peter on the fourteenth, which must have been a very good putt, as it was not closer than 525 cm and he did not record it by gobbling.

The greenskeeper spent a few days this week ameliorating a right-hander’s hazard on the sixth hole when most of one of the encroaching gum trees (Blakelys redgum) on the left-hand side of the fairway was cut down and cut up into combustible bricks. Right-handers are now expected to dominate over the coming weeks.

Friday’s 9 hole comp to right-handed Graeme Bell with 18 points.

Saturday’s stroke round for the monthly medal of June went to two right-handers. Congratulations to Aaron Walton for his first win, with nett 67 in the mens event and to Marie with nett 85 in the ladies.

Nearest the pin to left-handed George with 310 cm on the seventeenth. No birdies were recorded on this hole. Gobbles to Aaron on the first and to Peter on the third, serendipitously for a birdie.

Next Saturday, a 10 am single stableford event. For those not yet used to it, the probationary period for Saturday golf at 10 am is over, and it has passed with majority agreement, so it is now a permanent change.

On Sunday, the club’s pennant team will travel to Boorowa for round 2 of the small clubs event. 10 am start too.
