Please find below the golf report as issued to the local newspaper - except for a message to those golfers using their putters as walking sticks. The golf rules of etiquette specifically state, in the section on preventing unnecessary damage, that ‘players should not lean on their clubs when on the putting green, particularly when removing the ball from the hole’. If you cannot reach ten centimetres underground without a prop, there is a little suction cap you can append to the top of the grip on your putter, for convenience and for the proper upkeep of the green.
Indra played the course on Tuesday, so no-one else did. Friday saw the normal 9 hole competition extended to 18 holes, with Peter Frecklington ending up with the best score of 35 points.
Saturday’s stableford event was played in fine conditions, with all water hazards overflowing from the welcome rain earlier in the week. With 41 points, the winner was Peter Frecklington.
A birdie to Graeme Bell on the seventh after sinking a 552 cm putt, his measure for the best nearest the pin of the day. Peter had his birdie on the sixth, with a chip in from the back edge. Another gobble to Marie Bagnall on the fifth and one to Peter Bolton on the tenth.
A team of two qualified for the NSW fourball championships, with Peter Frecklington and George Gerrard designated delegates with Graeme Bell and Mick McDonell as reserves.
A clutch of the local members attended the Tipperary 20th anniversary event on Sunday, a two person ambrose, with Clover Leigh’s Mick and Jenny McDonell taking out the honours. Congratulations to Mick for his hole in one on the first hole, which set them up for their fine round in fine conditions.
Peter Bolton and Jenny also scooped the nearest the pins for mens and ladies. Congratulations to the Tipperary members and committee, who maintain a great little club and course, on their twenty years.
Next week, the fifth Saturday of the month, will be a novel-tee event, 10 am hit off.
