Please find below the golf report as issued to the local newspaper - except for a reminder to players to maintain a measure of decorum on the last green. Before you start with the handshakes, kisses, backslaps or commiserations, please wait until the last person has putted out! As Section 1 of the Rules of Golf states: “Players should always show consideration for other players on the course and should not disturb their play by moving, talking or making unnecessary noise.”
Tuesday’s single stableford was a close affair with two-thirds of the field recording 38 points. After a countback of the final nine holes, the winner was declared to be Peter Frecklington. George Gerrard, who came in second, had the consolation of nearest the pin on the fourteenth with a measure of 750 cm.
A birdie to Peter on the fourth and a brush with another birdie on the tenth when his Optima sailed over the trees and up into the hills in the beak of an Australian raven.
Saturday saw the welcome return of Tania Baldwin, who promptly put her stamp on the womens monthly medal with the winning score of nett 72. Mens May monthly medal to Mick McDonell, there being no other logical alliterative alternate, albeit he did have the best score of nett 66.
Nearest the pin to George Gerrard who had no luck with the putter all day, so stood little chance of sinking a 313 cm putt on the twelfth hole. It dutifully sailed past the edge of the hole. A chip in to Marie Bagnall on the sixth and birdies to Tania on the eleventh and Peter on the thirteenth.
Next Saturday will be a single stableford, and for those who missed the subtle mention in last week’s report, there will be a break between nines for lunch.
Clover Leigh is participating in the South West Slopes small clubs pennant match along with Boorowa, Binalong and Bigga, with the first match on Sunday 17th May when we travel to Bigga.
Now is the time to get your name into captain Peter as the places are limited. There is a concurrent stableford competition, so you can still rack up points for Clover Leigh even if you miss out on a coveted pennant placement.
