Golf Report for 18th April 2015

With the skies looking that they would open at any time, members out at Clover Leigh contested “Ken’s Cup,’ a Two Person Select Partners Ambrose event to honour the memory of the late Ken Marland on Saturday.

The winning pairing of Nico and Freck came in with a fine nett score of 60.75 to their credits from the next best pair of Marie Bagnall and George Gerrard, who recorded nett 65 neat to be in the runner’s up position.

Longest drives for the men to Nico and for the ladies to Maree Marland.

NTP’s to Freck on the sixteenth hole for the men with 3.75 metres and to Carolyn Windsor also on the sixteenth hole for the ladies with a much closer 2.60 metres.

George and Phil Windsor both had a gobble each.

Carolyn recorded the only birdie to be found on the cards when she finished off her NTP shot on the sixteenth.

Many thanks go out to Gary and Maree Marland for their sponsorship of the day’s competition.

Also to all, who over the past weeks with help from the much needed rain to make the course to be in tip top condition for this much love event in the program.

Prior to golf the club held it’s annual general meeting with positions been filled as follows, president, Col Frecklington, vice president, George Gerrard, secretary/treasurer and captain, Peter Frecklington, vice captain, Graeme Bell, handicapper, Nico and with committee members Tania Baldwin and Maree Marland.

This coming Saturday at 12 noon the event for the day will be decided on the day.

And from Saturday, May 2, for a trial period in the hope to becoming a permanent tee time, hit-off for the weekly competition will be at 10 a.m., unless advise otherwise.

In the Small Club’s Pennants and Stableford competition, with a few up’s and down’s of last few weeks, the first round will now take place at Bigga on Sunday, May 17, as Canowindra has decided to withdraw from the competition and this bring the teams competing back to four.

On behalf of the other clubs, I would like to thank the Canowindra club members who supported the event over the years all the best for the future.

During the week, Freck and Pam played host a group from the Far South Coast for a most enjoyable several day’s of fun and play.

This coming week they will also be hosting a group from down South, lets hope the weather is kind so they can enjoy what Clover Leigh has to offer as well.

A get well goes out to Maureen, who is not at her best at the moment and it was disappointing that you and Terry couldn’t make it up for the weekend.

In closing I would also like to inform all who read or hear the Clover Leigh Golf Club report, which I have presented almost every week for the best part of fifteen years, that I have decided to pass the baton in to the capable hands of Peter, who will keep you all up to date with the going on’s at our much love little course.
