The weather that was expected for the weekend was on show out at Clover Leigh on Saturday and Sunday when a full program of events over the two day?s were contested. On Saturday afternoon members contested a Single Stableford event when winner with a point score of 39 was Mick from next best, Peter Frecklington with 37 points to be in the runner?s up position. NTP going to Peter on the fifth hole with a close 2.03 metres. No gobbles were to be found on the cards, but Peter once again scored for him self two birdies on the eleventh and eighteenth holes respectively. With one of his birdies coming on the Betty Freck memorial eighteenth, he took home another ball to add to his ever growing tally. The great weather conditions continued on Sunday morning when Barb and Richard Stonestreet from down at Bendick Murrell?s, Calare Tavern, sponsored a Three Person Ambrose draw for partner?s event. From a good field the winning team of Errol Sholz, Graeme Bell who made it back in time from Sydney when watch his beloved Bulldogs the night before at ANZ win the right to go into the NRL Grand Final up against the Rabbits this Sunday evening, and the final member of the team, Peter Freck, took out the day?s event with a fine nett 57.5. Runner?s up going to Matt Castin, Matt Barniner and Murray Swann with nett 68. A Bradman?s trophy was also on offer when the grouping of Georgie Miln, Baz and David Nash came in with nett 79. Longest drives to Peter Freck for the men and to Georgie for the ladies. NTP?s trophies were on offer on the par three holes when Peter recorded one on the third hole with 6.02 metres and a second on the seventh with a slightly closer 4.34 metres, and on the eighth hole it was John Jones turn where he had a ten metre shot of the cup. This coming weekend is the October Long Weekend and as always at this time it is a very busy and full four day?s of fun and play at Clover Leigh which starts on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m., when a Two Person Teams event over nine holes will be held. Following golf at around 6.30 p.m. a BYO BBQ will be the go. Saturday at 12 p.m. George and Graeme will be sponsoring a Novelty Teams event when partners will be decided from a draw while players enjoy a sausage sizzle for lunch just before hit-off. In the evening at 7 p.m. a Hot Dish meal will be on offer for the small charge of $25. Club members are requested to bring a hot dish to cater for themselves and others with the added cost of $15 which will be pooled together for all to enjoy. The dress and social theme for the evening will take the form of a Day at The Races. A reminder before you head off to bed, set your clocks forward one hour, as daylight-saving will take effect from early on Sunday morning. Don?t forget the earlier start on Sunday when at 11am, Clover Leigh?s, annual ?Clover Leigh Cup,? a Four Ball Best Ball Stableford event with a draw for partner?s prior to hit-off will be taking place. Again there will be a sausage sizzle for lunch, but this time at halfway. Along with the Club, the day?s event will also be sponsored by the South West District Golf Association when a Visitor?s Trophy as part of their South West District Club?s Open Day promotion program will be on offer. For those staying on after golf, a BYO BBQ for the evening meal while hopefully enjoying the Grand Final of the NRL between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Canterbury Bulldogs, which is timed to kick-off around 7.15 p.m. And if there is anyone still up to it, on Monday morning at 9am, the ?The Big Ambrose,? over nine holes.
