Golf Report for
5th July 2014

The bad weather did not deter members and a large number of visitors from converging on the Clover Leigh Golf course on the weekend when a very busy program was contested on Saturday and Sunday.

Staring on Saturday afternoon the club took great pleasure in honouring the memory of a much loved former club member, Vera McPake, when they held for its twelfth time a Three Person Select Partners Ambrose event.

Sponsor for the day was Mick who in absents of Vera?s family was most happy fill the void.

The best score for the day going to the team of Corey Knight, Roger and Craig Mason with a nett result of 57.1. Next best with nett 58.4 was the group of Robbie Lawrence, Jake and Matt Devlin.

Both the winning and runner?s up teams came a day early and stayed the night as they were to play in Sunday?s Small Club?s Pennant?s and Stableford Competition.

Longest drives to Jake for the men, and Tania Baldwin for the ladies.

NTP?s to George Gerrard for the men and to Jenny McDonell for the ladies when both prizes were decided from a draw as there was no one to land their tee shot on the designated greens.

Sunday saw 37 contest the final round of the Small Club?s Pennant?s and Stableford Competition, when the weather conditions improved only slightly a little more them was experienced the day before.

In the Pennant?s side of the day?s event it was Clover Leigh?s turn to host the round, and with the BYE, and were unable to add to their points tally.

That left Bigga, Binalong, Boorowa and Canowindra to fight it out to proudly hold the Pennant?s and not to proudly the ?Wooden Spoon,? trophies.

With the only two teams able to win the competition, Binalong and Boorowa playing each other, the result was expected to go right down to the wire.

Although Binalong had won the day with three wins to two losses, they just failed to take out the Pennant?s Shield for 2014.

With Boorowa?s fine start in the first few rounds they were just too far out in front and were crowned this year?s winners.

The pennant?s ?Wooden Spoon,? trophy went to the Canowindra Golf Club when they managed to record the lowest number of points, as the following will state with final tallying been Boorowa with 31 points, Binalong with 23, Bigga with 19, Clover Leigh with 16 and Canowindra with 11 points.

Boorowa also took out the Stableford Trophy of 2014 when they tallied a very high 126 points from next best Binalong with 74, Bigga with 68, Canowindra with 33 and Clover Leigh in last placing with 16 points.

The day?s Single Stableford event that was ran with day?s competition was sponsored by Clover Leigh, and we saw Doug Picker from Bigga take out the men?s side of the draw with a fine 40 points from Boorowa?s Richard Hall who was runner?s up from a very close count-back to three other men who all recorded 37 points a piece.

The ladies best score was Ethel Lee from Binalong with 30 points from next Canowindra?s Helen Kemper with 27 points to be in the runner?s up position.

Junior?s winner was Bigga?s Lochie Hughes with 34 points from Wade Picker also from Bigga with 30 points to their credits.

Longest drives to Mick Patterson from Binalong for the men, and to Helen for the ladies.

NTP?s to Ben Howell from Boorowa for the men and to Bigga?s Jasmin Olive for the ladies.

On behave of all, I would like to thank all who have participated in this year?s Small Club?s Pennants and Stableford competition, and to all the helpers from all the clubs, with out your assistance this competition would not go off as good as it has over the years it has been running and hope to see you all next year when we do it all again.

This coming Saturday at 12 noon the July Monthly Medal will be contested, and on Sunday, Peter Bolton, Peter Freck, George and Mick will be going to West Wyalong to compete in the South West DGA?s final of the NSW Fourball Championships. We wish them all the best, as the winning pair earns the right to go onto the State final at the famed Bonville Golf Resort just south Coffs Harbour in October.
