Under slightly overcast skies, member out at Clover Leigh contested a Single Stableford event for their weekly competition on Saturday afternoon. Winning with a fine 41 points to his credit was Nico, from next best Tania Baldwin with 38 points to be in the runner?s up position. NTP?s going to Nico on the third with 3.05 metres for the men and to Tania for the ladies on the sixteenth with not so close eight metres. Three gobbles were to found on the cards when Peter Frecklington had his on the sixth and to Marie Bagnall who recorded two on the fourteenth and seventieth holes respectively. Peter Freck also scored the only birdies for the day on the sixth and thirteenth holes. On Sunday morning, members travelled to a wonderfully prepared Bigga Golf Course to contest the first round of the Small Clubs Pennants and Stableford competition. Due to some clubs members participating in other events over the long weekend, numbers from Clover Leigh and Canowindra were one Pennants team member down, which resulted in having to forfeit a game a piece to opposing team. With Clover Leigh up against the Binalong side, who have come back the competition after several years absents, we saw Peter Freck take on the big hitting Mick Patterson, with Peter winning with four and two. Tania took on Paul Glover to record a square result, and Peter Bolton won over John Lee, three and two, Mick went down to Peter Curtis four and five, with the final match going to Binalong on a forfeit. In the other side of the draw it was Boorowa up against Canowindra, Boorowa won convincingly with five wins to five loses. Progress scores in the Pennants we see Boorowa out in front with 10 points, Binalong and Clover Leigh both with 5 points and Canowindra and Bigga who had the bye in the first round with zero. In the next round that will be held at Canowindra on Sunday, May 18, Bigga will be playing Binalong, and Boorowa will be playing Clover Leigh, with Canowindra having the bye. In the other part of the day?s play we saw the Stableford competition hit-off with some fine scores when the leading four competitors all recorded 40 points a piece. Progress scores in this event sees Bigga with the home ground advantage lead with 26 points, Boorowa next with 22 points, Binalong with 11 points in third placing, Clover Leigh with 4 points and in last placing is Canowindra with zero. As the next round is to be held at Canowindra that zero result is most likely to change as their members come out in force to support the club in large numbers. This coming Saturday at Clover Leigh, the May Monthly Medal Stroke event will be contested at 12 noon. Til? Next Week ? Straight Hitting |
